Sir,

I have the honour to inform you that the Government Bacteriologist who is also Medical Officer in charge of the Mortuary in Hongkong has requested that the title of his office may be altered to that of "Director of the Bacteriological Institute and Government Pathologist" stating that he knows of no Bacteriological Institute the head of which is not designated 'Director' and that he finds it awkward in corresponding with such Institutes not to be possessed of the usual title. He further contends that the term "Medical Officer" as applied to an officer who devotes his whole time to Pathology and Bacteriology is in-

-appropriate.

2.

I see no objection to the suggested alteration

in title which has the support of the Principal Civil Medical Officer, and I therefore submit the proposal for your approval.

I have the honour to be,

sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Clans Seven

Officer Administering the Government.
